2004 L’A.P.A.D (Motorways and tunnels)

Why?

Certain geographic zones are known for being dangerous due to frequent fog. Moreover, the risk of a multiple collision is higher on motorways because cars are driving faster. Therefore we are going to decrease the risk of a multiple collision due to bad weather (fog, rain,..) or because of poor visibility (dangerous turns, driving at night…)

The drivers of the cars on the same lane are warned immediately when an accident takes place and can take action depending on the colour of the light.

Principle:

When there is a serious accident on the motorway, the system can be set into motion manually (by the person who had the accident) or automatically (by the motorway manager).

Industrial version

The “4 coloured” light called A.P.A.D can be installed quickly thanks to a sliding system, and has its own power supply (use of emergency poles)
It can be set into motion manually (by the person who had the accident) or automatically (by the motorway manager).

Buttons are placed on the crash-barrier every 100 metres and 4 lights are placed near the emergency poles).
